Design Trends Gaining Popularity

August 20, 2024

As designers, we often hear our customers ask us “what’s popular?” or “what do people usually do?” When making various design decisions, the honest answer is you should select what you like and what brings you joy. Afterall, it is your home! With that being said, there are trends that come and go, and we are always watching the marketplace, listening to our designers and working to figure out what’s popular not and what is just around the corner.

Warmer earth tones, jewel tone accent colors and overall bolder design selections are on the rise. We will highlight the trends that are most applicable to the kitchen and bath industry and why we are excited about them!

1 – “Browns Bounce Back”

We have lived in a world of grey and white for a long time. Over a decade, actually. Grey is still a wonderful choice, and we do feel that it is a timeless color given its versatility. But it is exciting to see warmer tones, specifically browns make a comeback. Brown is a comforting color that offers a neutral backdrop to almost any space. With the increased interest in brown, we think natural wood cabinets are going to be a bigger player and start competing with painted wood cabinets again. Natural wood cabinets allow the beauty of the material to take center stage and offer a depth and uniqueness not found on a painted surface. Natural wood cabinets are also more forgiving and will hide scratches and dings which are inevitable in an active kitchen space.

2 – Mushroom Brown and Beige or Greige

Staying on the theme of kitchen cabinets, we are seeing a rise in the use of painted cabinets using a grey color with mushroom brown or beige tones, otherwise known as “greige.” This is another nice departure from a solid grey or white kitchen since the warmer grey and brown/beige tones add a softness to the space and automatically make it feel warmer. We are not surprised by this color gaining popularity as it is a perfect choice for a modern farmhouse kitchen which is still highly desirable. These tones pair well with soft greens, natural wood, various shades of white and most metallic finishes.

3 – Bold Accent Colors in the Bathroom

Slowly but surely, more color has made its way into the bathroom space. Here in New England, navy and cobalt blue have been a popular vanity color for a handful of years now. It appears that this trend is evolving, and we are introducing bolder selections, more unique to the homeowner in the bathroom. This is something that we are excited about, especially in the master bathroom. The powder room has always been a place where we push our clients to be a little more daring. Mainly because it is a small space that can often be closed off from the rest of the home, so why not take that opportunity to have a little fun? It is also a great way to showcase another side of your personality and share that with your guests. On the other hand, the master bathroom is very personal. It is a space where you start and end your day. It is a space where you set your intentions for the day and where you regroup and unwind as the day draws to a close. In our opinion, these are the perfect reasons to make it a space you love using colors that your find comforting, inspiring and bring you happiness. So, if you love a rich, dark plum color let’s put it on your vanity!
